Up, up and away for admin bets
Is "Duterte magic" helping pull up the administration candidates?
If the results of the latest Pulse Asia survey on the senatorial race don't change in the next month, the candidates endorsed by President Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, could get a majority of the 12 seats up for grabs in the May 13 upper house elections.
Nine candidates from the president's party PDP-Laban and the Sara-Duterte-backed regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, have a strong chance of winning.
Three candidates not aligned with the administration--Grace Poe, Lito Lapid and Nancy Binay--will likely prevent a 12-0 administration victory.
The opposition slate Otso Diretso is in danger of not winning a seat, with only re-electionist Bam Aquino and former Senator Mar Roxas having a chance of winning.
President Duterte is thus likely to get a strong mandate in the midterm polls so he can pursue his agenda, particularly federalism, in the next three years.
