MANILA - Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday urged Filipinos to welcome the new year with hope, saying her office's mission to improve Filipinos' lives would continue in the coming years.

"Salubungin sana natin ang bagong taon nang may pag-asa sa ating mga mata, galak sa ating mga puso at ngiti sa ating mga labi," Robredo said in her New Year's message.

(Let us welcome the New Year with hope in our eyes, joy in our hearts and smiles on our lips.)

"Sa kabila ng lahat ng ating pinagdaanan at pagdadaanan pa, ay napakaraming bagay na dapat din nating ipagpasalamat," she said.

(Despite everything we have been through and we yet have to go through, there are still a lot of things to be thankful for.)

The Vice President also urged Filipinos to look back at the year that was and to keep the lessons that they learned in 2019.

"Sa gitna ng lahat ng ingay sa ating panahon, nananatiling malinaw ang pangarap natin para sa ating bayan: isang mas maginhawa at mas magandang buhay para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino," she said.

(In the midst of all the noise, our dream for our country remains clear: a better life foe every Filipino family.)

Robredo had a challenging 2019 after President Rodrigo Duterte appointed her to co-chair the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs before sacking her after less than a month.

All of the 8 candidates who were part of the senatorial slate she endorsed in the 2019 midterm polls lost in the recent elections.
