An unidentified man found lying on a road in Barangay Alipang, Rosario, La Union early Saturday was declared dead on arrival when he was taken to hospital.
PO1 Mark Anthony Mendoza and two acquaintances came across the man while on their way home to Barangay Cuenca, Pugo, La Union.
"Pag-uwi namin galing mamihan may napansin kaming nakahigang lalaki at duguan, ni-report namin agad sa police station," he said.
The man, who stood 5-foot-9, was declared dead on arrival at Rosario District Hospital.
He sustained 2 stab wounds on the nape, one on his left shoulder and one on his left palm.
The policemen also found a white comforter with blood stains on the road in nearby Barangay Subusub.
The victim, bloodied when found, was wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and a silver Seiko watch. No identification card was found on him.
Authorities are appealing to the public to come forward if they have information on the man's identity.
"Kailangan nating malaman iyong identity niya para masimulan na natin iyong investigation," said Police Chief Insp. Bernabe Oribello, chief of Rosario Municipal Police.
