MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday checked on some victims of the powerful explosion that tore through the town plaza of Hilongos, Leyte earlier this week.
Thirty-four people were wounded when two homemade bombs exploded during the town's fiesta celebration on Wednesday night. They were brought to different hospitals in Hilongos, Maasin and Tacloban in Leyte.
Duterte arrived around 10 a.m. at the Hilongos District Hospital where a large crowd had gathered to welcome him. He stopped by Leyte on his way home to Davao City to spend the New Year holidays with his family.
The President earlier claimed the bombing was due to a turf war among Moro groups and drug rings.
The military however said Maute extremists may be behind the attack.
