MANILA -- Former President Joseph Estrada appeared in public early Friday, days after he was hospitalized for overfatigue.
The 79-year-old mayor of the capital, Manila, joined President Rodrigo Duterte in a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 120th death anniversary of the country's national hero, Jose Rizal.
Wearing a crisp barong, Estrada stood at attention while Duterte laid flowers on Rizal's tomb. He also helped pull the rope to raise the flag at Luneta.
Estrada's son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, said his father fell ill due to bad weather. He also clarified reports that the former leader was down with pneumonia.
