MANILA - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is still positive that the Philippines will reach its 8.2 million target for foreign tourist arrivals the Department of Tourism (DOT) set this year.
As of yesterday, the country was only 200,000 tourists away from the target as it has reached its 8-million mark.
According to BI Ports Operations Division Acting Chief Grifton Medina, he is confident that they could reach- even surpass- said number in the remaining four days of the year.
On average, 50,000 tourists arrive in the country every day. As it is the holiday season, the numbers are expected to jump and the goal will be achieved, Medina said.
Reaching the 8-million mark is already a milestone since the country only recorded a total of 7.1 million tourists in 2018, the DOT said.
They are gunning for 9.2 million foreign arrivals in 2020. - Report from Mike Delizo, ABS-CBN News
