MANILA - Authorities said Thursday they were verifying the identity of a man in police uniform who allegedly threatened a fellow motorist in Taguig City.
In a Facebook post, a certain Pinky Timbang Ortiz said the man in a Toyota Fortuner with plate no. ABH 5257 almost ran into them as they were crossing Bonifacio Avenue at around 6:48 p.m. on Wednesday.
Ortiz took a photo of the man, whom she said spoke in Filipino with an American accent. The man's arm was covered in tattoos and wore a police athletic uniform.
"Puro tattoo ang kamay. Walang pulis na puro tattoo kasi bawal sa amin ang may tattoo," said Director Oscar Albayalde, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office.
(The arm was covered in tattoos. No policeman is covered in tattoos because it's prohibited.)
"Most probably, nakainom ito -- mga police character o asset-asset ng pulis. Wala namang ginagawa ang motorista. Usurpation of authority ang ginagawa niya," he added.
(He's most probably drunk -- police character or police asset. What he did was usurpation of authority.)
Ortiz's post, which had been shared some 18,000 times, read: "His bumper was directly in front of my window. It was as if he was intentionally trying to ram us. Then he honked his horn and even turned on his 'wangwang' (police siren)."
In response, Ortiz said she opened her window to give the motorist a puzzled look. When they moved forward, the man tried to overtake, stopped and opened his window to threaten the woman.
"He said 'You ran a red light! Gusto mo dalin ko kayo sa presinto?!' (with an American accent). Then we shouted 'Hindi kami nag-run ng red light! Anong presinto?!' Ortiz said.
