MANILA - The Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) has ordered the arrest of Marine Lt. Col. Ferdinand Marcelino and his alleged cohort Yan Yi Shuo a.k.a. Randy in connection with a P380-million drug case.
RTC branch 49 presiding judge Daniel Villanueva signed the arrest warrant on Dec. 22, ordering authorities to immediately deliver the two to the Manila City Jail.
The Department of Justice earlier found probable cause to charge Marcelino and his Chinese national companion for violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of the RA No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
The two were arrested on January 21 at a townhouse in Sta. Cruz, Manila dubbed as a "shabu laboratory" by the PDEA and PNP-AIDG.
Marcelino had argued that he was onsite for a separate anti-drug operation. His counsel, Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Rueda-Acosta, also said no illicit drugs were recovered from Marcelino.
He was freed in June after posting bail.
Last September, Senator Leila de Lima claimed that the government was reviving the case to force Marcelino into implicating her in the narcotics trade.
Marcelino, however, insisted that nobody pressured him to speak against De Lima.
