TAYTAY – An explosion believed to be caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) shook a bakery in Taytay, Palawan early Wednesday, police said.

Police said Jerald Ganje Perje was sleeping in his bakery in Sitio Montevista, Barangay Poblacion, Taytay, Palawan when the blast occurred at 1:20 a.m.

Nobody was injured during the blast. It has yet to be determined how much damage the blast caused to property.

Palawan Provincial Police Office Explosive Ordnance Division personnel said they were able to recover bottle fragments usually used in homemade fishing explosives, locally known as "bongbong".

They also suspect that the possible motive was to scare Perje, who was celebrating his birthday on December 28.

Authorities said the incident was not an act of terrorism aimed at the community.
