MANILA - The military on Wednesday accused communist rebels of staging at least 2 attacks in the south on Christmas Day, despite a ceasefire.
Around 30 alleged New People's Army fighters attempted to abduct a militia man in Tarragona town, Davao Oriental province, said Capt. Jerry Lamosao, spokesman of the Army's 10th Infantry Division.
Another group of rebels allegedly attacked an army militia base in Laak, Compostela Valley, Lamosao said.
Major Gen. Noel Clemen, commander of the Army's 10th Infranty Division, said the attacks were clear violations of the Christmas ceasefire declared by the group.
