MANILA - Seven people, including a barangay council member, four civilians and two police officers, were arrested for illegally discharging their firearms between December 16 and 26, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.
Police said the arrested barangay official is from the Ilocos region, while two of the civilians are from Central Luzon and the two others are from Central Visayas.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Oscar Albayalde said the two arrested police officers - one from Montalban, Rizal and the other from Tondo, Manila - are now facing dismissal.
"Lasing sila at nakapagpaputok. Ngayon, naka-restrictive custody na sila at may direktiba na ang dismissal sa kanila," Albayalde told DZMM on Tuesday.
(They were drunk. Now, they are under restrictive custody and there is already a directive for their dismissal.)
Despite this, Albayalde said there will be no sealing of guns for policemen this time as PNP chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa wants to show people that the country's officers are disciplined.
The PNP traditionally seals police officers' firearms on the runup to the New Year celebration to prevent them from discharging their guns during the revelry.
"Gustong ipakita ng ating chief PNP na disiplinado na ang ating mga pulis," he said, hoping that less incidents will be recorded as Filipinos welcome 2018.

Albayalde said people who would want to report those who illegally use their firearms this holiday season may call PNP hotline 911 or text 2920. --with a report from Bianca Dava, ABS-CBN News
