MANILA - A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit Ilocos Norte province on Monday and was felt in parts of neighboring Cagayan, state seismologists said.
The quake struck at a depth of 16 kilometers, some 35 kilometers northeast of Pagudpud town, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Intensity 3 was felt in Claveria, Cagayan. The shaking at this level is similar to feeling the passage of a light truck. It causes hanging objects to swing moderately and triggers nausea in some people, Philvocs said.
Intensity 2 was felt in Pasuquin and Laoag in Ilocos Norte and intensity 1 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
Phivolcs said no aftershocks are expected from the quake, which was tectonic in origin.
