LAGUNA - A 54-year-old police officer was shot dead allegedly by his live-in partner in Calamba, Laguna early Christmas morning, police said.
Superintendent Chitadel Gaoiran, Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 4 public information officer, identified the fatality as Chief Insp. Nicholas Ma-Amo who was assigned at the Las Piñas police station.
Based on an initial report, the victim's son, Neil, heard his father and his live-in partner Janalyn Cabahug, 27 years old, having a heated argument in their house in Asia 2, Barangay Canlubang around 5:30 a.m.
Investigators said Neil tried to stop Cabahug when he saw her pointing the gun to his father.
The two fought over the gun, leaving both of them wounded.
Neighbors rushed the two to the San Jose Trauma Center but Ma-amo died while being treated.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the argument while a case is being readied against Cabahug.
