MANILA- One person died reportedly of electrocution as Typhoon Ursula battered the central Philippines on Christmas eve.
Leyte Governor Dominic Petilla said Wednesday that a man died of electrocution in Abuyog town during the storm's onslaught.
"Meron tayong isang casualty sa Abuyog, Leyte. Na-electrocute ata. Nakuryente," he told radio DZMM.
Petilla added that the local government is also verifying reports of another casualty.
Ursula has made landfall 4 times in the run-up to Christmas Day, with the latest landfall recorded in the Gigantes Islands, Iloilo at 2:30 a.m.
As of Wednesday morning, Ursula continues to bring "very destructive winds" and heavy rains over the central Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
