Amid all the merrymaking, the country's highest executive officials reminded Filipinos that not everybody gets to celebrate this Christmas.

In her Christmas message, Vice President Leni Robredo asked that people remember the efforts of Marawi residents to rebuild their lives after a months-long siege.

Nagsisimula pa lamang silang bumangon mula sa gulo ng hidwaang naganap ngayong taon," she said.

President Rodrigo Duterte called on Filipinos to help the needy and to reflect on the meaning of the holidays.

"In the midst of all the revelry and festivity, may we also remember our brothers and sisters who are in need to that we can become instruments for the betterment of their lives. Today let us celebrate Christ's life by finding in our hearts the true meaning of his birth and becoming the personification of the almighty's grace and love," he said in a pre-released Christmas message.

Senators also called for unity and peace in the country in separate statements ahead of the celebration of Christmas.
