Palace: Joma Sison 'abominable violator of human rights' 1

MANILA - Malacañang on Monday said it is Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison who should be called "abominable violator of human rights" and not President Rodrigo Duterte.

This, after Sison alleged that Duterte is the "number one perpetrator of state-sponsored terrorism."

"It is Jose Ma. Sison, as founder of the CPP-NPA that aims to destroy the government that should rightfully get the dubious distinction of being the leading 'abominable violator of human rights,'" Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Panelo also said the government is only defending itself, and Duterte's order to destroy the rebels is part of his mandate.

"The President's order to destroy the CPP-NPA and all its legal fronts is pursuant to his constitutional duty to protect the people," he said.

"The CCP-NPA was established for the purpose of seizing political power from the constituted government," Panelo added.

Duterte on Saturday ordered the military to destroy communist rebels, adding he will "assume full responsibility" should cases of human rights violations be filed against him.
