A security guard tagged as the suspect in the shooting of father and son Attorneys Goering and Gerik Paderanga was arrested by operatives of Cebu City Police Office Friday morning.
The suspect was identified as Jonathan Sanchez, who has been assigned at the construction site for six months now.
He said that it all started when he reprimanded Atty. Gerik because the latter's parked vehicle was blocking a mixer at the road right of way.
The suspect alleged that the lawyer did not heed his request.
Paderanga's son, Atty. Goering Paderanga, went outside the law office after hearing the gunshots and was also shot by the security guard.
Sanchez said that he never had any altercation with the lawyers before.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where the elder Paderanga was declared dead. His son is in serious condition after he sustained a gunshot wound in the head.
Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Cebu President Atty. Gonzalo Malig-on Jr. said in a statement the shooting of the father and son is "a sad day for lawyers and peace-loving Cebuanos."
"I don't know what has gone wrong with us, when the culture of violence is now almost becoming the norm," he said as he sent their condolences to the family of Judge Paderanga, who he said is "an ironic victim of why we should continue to believe and uphold the rule of law."
