The roof of a bus was blown away after it hit a tree on Saturday afternoon

(UPDATED) Four people died while 29 others were injured in a bus accident in Barangay Sulit in Polomolok, South Cotabato on Saturday afternoon.

The casualties were identified as Jonathan de Viejo, 43; motorist Sammy Magsipoc, 28; Majelyn Estevez,16; and Rosemarie Esteves.

A woman mourns the death of a passenger who died in a bus accident Saturday.

Investigation showed that a motorcycle being driven by Magsipoc was approaching a Husky bus being driven by Roberic Danao.

Magsipoc allegedly signaled to turn, which prompted Danao to hit the brakes amid the slippery road.

The bus, carrying 33 passengers, veered toward incoming traffic and hit a tree.

The collision blew off the roof of the bus and threw passengers off the vehicle.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Danao is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.

ABS-CBN News tried to get the side of Husky Bus but their top official was unavailable. Police said the bus' management promised to shoulder the medical expenses of the injured victims, as well as the burial expenses of the casualties.
