DUMANGAS – Authorities confiscated at least 11 kilograms (kg) of marijuana from two suspects arrested near the Dumangas Port in Iloilo on Friday afternoon.
Around 40 bricks of marijuana, as well as stalks, oil, tablets, and drug paraphernalia, were found in two bags the suspects left at the side of the road going to the port.
The suspects, Tonichi Ami and Abdula Ishaq, left the bags behind in an attempt to escape from port security personnel and the Coast Guard, who noticed they were acting suspiciously.
The authorities said that the suspects came from Benguet and arrived in Iloilo via a roll on-roll off (RORO) vessel from Caticlan in Malay, Aklan. They were bound for Bacolod.
The suspects declined to comment.
Meanwhile, Task Force Puerto tightened security measures in the area as more passengers were expected to flock before Christmas Day.
Additional law enforcers will be deployed in the area to deter people from attempting to transport contraband via the Dumangas Port.
