With only two days before Christmas, local authorities on Friday took children off the streets in Cagayan de Oro to give them shelter and rehabilitation.
The City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) office said it had rescued around 25 street children who usually gather under a bridge to inhale solvents and aerosols.
The children were taken to the Mother Theresa Foundation Home for Street Children in Cagayan de Oro.
Acting CSWD officer Teddy Sabugaa said they will spend Christmas at the center and will be rehabilitated for six months with their parents' consent.
Aside from the street children, also evacuated were illegal settlers residing under the bridge.
They were brought to the foundation home and will be given assistance.
