MANILA - Two weather disturbances crept closer to the country ahead of Christmas, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
A tropical depression off Mindanao is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday evening or early Monday and is forecast to make landfall over Visayas or Mindanao, according to PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza.
As of 3 a.m., it was last spotted 1,510 kilometers east of Mindanao, moving west-northwest at 25 km per hour (kph) and packing maximum winds of 55 kph and gusts of up to 70 kph.
If it enters the PAR, the weather disturbance will be named Ursula, the weather agency earlier said, becoming the 21st storm to enter the country this year.
A shallow low pressure area, meanwhile, will bring scattered rains over Mindanao and Eastern and Central Visayas, PAGASA said.
