MANILA—Senator-elect and former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was in the country earlier this month for a humanitarian mission.

In a Facebook post, Ann Romney, Mitt's wife, shared that their family visited surgical charity Mabuhay Deseret Foundation through US-based foundation Charity Vision.

"Treatment, travel, and accommodation come at no cost to the patients, many of whom are children. We are so proud to support this life-changing work," she said.

The Romneys' son, Joshua, also shared the experience of his family meeting Filipino children.

"My boys were nervous and shy at first, but quickly fell in love with the beautiful spirit’s of these children. This home has such love and happiness within its walls and we are blessed to be a part of it," he said.

Mitt Romney will be sworn in as Utah senator on January 3.
