MANILA - Another technical problem hit the MRT-3 Friday afternoon, hours before the commuter rush for the holiday weekend.

Passengers of a northbound train were unloaded at Shaw Boulevard station at 12:33 p.m. due to a "technical problem," the MRT-3 said on its website.

The glitch comes ahead of MRT's limited operations for the holidays.

The train line earlier said it would run from 4:45 a.m. to 8:26 p.m. on Dec. 24, 6:30 a.m. to 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 25, 4:45 a.m. to 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 30, 4:45 a.m. to 8:26 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 6:30 a.m. to 9:50 p.m. on Jan 1.

In November, MRT operations director Michael Capati said they would shorten operating hours to give more time for maintenance work as the train line encountered frequent glitches.

"Makakatipid tayo diyan ng another 30 minutes na gagamitin natin sa pagme-maintain at pag-evaluate ng tren," he said.

(We can save another 30 minutes that we can use to maintain and evaluate our trains.)

Some 500,000 commuters use the MRT-3 every day to travel on EDSA, among Metro Manila's busiest thoroughfares.
