DAVAO - President Rodrigo Duterte is offering aid and protection to New People's Army (NPA) rebels who surrender to the government.
On Thursday night, Duterte addressed 200 former rebels during the "Pagkakaisa Para sa Kapayapaan" held at the Eastern Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Davao City.
"Obligasyon ko kayong protektahan tulad ng pag depensa ko sa mga sundalo," the president said.
He offered financial and housing assistance, job opportunities and an assurance that they can join the AFP.
The Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the local government and the Office of the Presidential Adviser of the Peace Process facilitated the surrender of rebels and their firearms from different parts of Easten Mindanao.
