BENGUET- Locals rescued a young injured Philippine hawk eagle in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet last Tuesday.
According to resident Marcelo Carpio, he saw the eagle tied outside the barangay hall.
“Nakita ko, nakatali yung paa, sabi sakin, gusto mo bang alagaan? Sabi ko sige gusto ko,” said Carpio.
He took the eagle home and let it stay for a night. He also tried to feed it but it refused to eat.
Carpio noticed that the eagle was already very weak. He decided to bring the eagle to authorities in La Trinidad Municipal Hall.
According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the young eagle had to be brought to Benguet State University for treatment because of its severe injuries mostly on its head.
Once it recuperates, it will be released in Sto. Tomas Forest reserve in Tuba, Benguet.
Philippine hawk eagles are an endangered species and are found only in the Philippines.
