MANILA - (3rd UPDATE) Officials of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Thursday gave conflicting information on the lifting of the number coding scheme for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago, in an interview with ABS-CBN News' Umagang Kay Ganda, initially said that the number coding in Metro Manila was lifted from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.
She later clarified in a text message to ABS-CBN News' website that the announcement only covers provincial buses, not private vehicles.
In a second clarification, she told Umagang Kay Ganda that private cars are also exempted from the number coding from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2.
But MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, speaking to radio DZMM about 30 minutes later, said his agency only suspended the coding scheme for provincial buses on Dec. 21 to Jan. 2.
MMDA officials, he said, will still talk about whether or not to lift the coding for private vehicles on Dec. 26 to 28.
"Pagdating naman po sa private [vehicles] next week, magmi-meeting po kami ngayon kung ili-lift din namin iyung 26, 27 and 28 -- iyung Wednesday, Thursday and Friday," he said.
"Meron po [na number coding] ang lahat, ang wala lang po is provincial buses po," he added.
The cities of Makati and Las Piñas have not yet issued announcements declaring the lifting of their own number coding schemes for the holidays.
