MANILA - Authorities have arrested a wanted fugitive accused of being the leader of a major fraud ring in Japan, the Bureau of Immigration said Thursday.

Misao Koyama, also known as "Misao Kaminsukaso," was arrested in an operation along Gil Puyat in Manila on Wednesday.

He is reportedly the leader of an 8-man fraud ring that allegedly swindled billions of Yen by selling properties of other people using forged land deals.

Immigration chief Jaime Morente said Japanese authorities earlier sought the country's assistance in locating Koyama, prompting them to launch an operation that led to the suspect's capture.

The bureau is already preparing for the deportation of the suspect who is facing charges in Japan for allegedly forging private documents to sell other people's land without consent.

Koyama was temporarily detained at the Immigration's facility in Bicutan, Taguig while his papers are being processed.--report from Dexter Ganibe, ABS-CBN News
