Law enforcers arrested a town vice-mayor and her husband after police found firearms, grenades and a sachet of suspected shabu inside their vehicle in a checkpoint in Moises Padilla town.
Relatives and supporters of Vice-Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo were shocked and angered when local police officers apprehended her and her husband, Felix Mathias Yulo III, Monday night.
Chief Inspector Allan Reloj said they noticed a firearm in Yulo's lap when the couple's vehicle passed thru a checkpoint along Crossing Magallon in Moises Padilla town.
Cops then searched the couple's pick-up and recovered three 45 caliber pistols and ammunition, including 2 grenades and a big sachet of suspected shabu.
The vice-mayor and her husband have yet to issue a statement on the arrest, but they showed the bruises they got when police officers allegedly forced them out of the vehicle following the search.
They claim they were on their way home after attending a session at the municipal council.
The vice-mayor's supporters believed the arrest is politically-motivated which the PNP denies, claiming that the town official was among their targets in the anti-illegal drug campaign.
