Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday said he feels that President Rodrigo Duterte has “complete trust” in him, despite supposed threats to his position.
Aguirre said, ever since he disclosed to reporters the bribery attempt of Chinese online gambling tycoon Jack Lam through Wally Sombero, “everybody” wants him to removed from his post.
He also warned against attempting to bribe Department of Justice (DOJ) employees, saying "Do not corrupt my people."
“Everybody wanted me out of the DOJ, everybody wanted to have my position. Okay lang, baka malasin sila because I feel the President has complete trust in me,” Aguirre said in a speech.
He added that many groups involved in the billion-peso industry were affected.
The justice chief revealed last month that Lam tried to bribe him following the arrest of over 1,000 illegally employed Chinese nationals.
Last Friday, Sombero filed cases against two Bureau of Immigration deputy commissioners who allegedly extorted money from Lam for the release of the Chinese nationals.
