'Urduja' maintains strength, moves towards Palawan

MANILA -- Tropical depression "Urduja" maintained its strength as it moves towards Cuyo Islands in Palawan, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said Urduja was 50 kilometers northeast of Cuyo, Palawan at 10 p.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

Tropical cyclone signal warning no. 1 is raised over Palawan, Aklan, and Northern Antique.

"Urduja" is forecast to move west-southwest at 17 kph. It is expected to be 135 km northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan within 24 hours.

PAGASA said rains will continue over the Mindoro provinces and Northern Palawan including Cuyo and Calamian Group of Islands. Residents there are warned against floods and landslides. 

Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor another tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility. It was last spotted at 1,875 km east of Mindanao.
