Vice President Leni Robredo expressed alarm over President Rodrigo Duterte's admission that he personally killed suspected criminals when he was still mayor of Davao City.

"Nakakabahala 'yon. Ano 'yong mensahe binibigay niya hindi lang sa karaniwang mamayan pero lalong-lalo na siguro sa mga alagad ng batas?" Robredo said.

(That is alarming. What message is he sending to the ordinary man? What more to the law enforcers?)

Duterte on Monday night, admitted in a speech to personally killing suspected criminals to set an example for police.

Robredo said the public should remember that Duterte is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and is the "boss" of police officers.

"Nakakatakot dito parang ini-encourage natin 'yung culture of impunity. Para[ng] ano ba 'yong mensahe nito? Binibigyan ba natin ng lisensya 'yong mga alagad din ng batas o karaniwang mamayan na mampatay din ng tao? Natatakot tayo baka things might get out of hand," she said.

(What is scary here is that it seems like we are encouraging the culture of impunity. It's like what is the message of this? Are we giving law enforcers or the regular person the license to also kill people? We are scared that things might get out of hand.)

Earlier this month, Robredo left her post as Housing secretary from the Cabinet.
