'Urduja' maintains strength, as it closes in on Eastern Samar

MANILA - Tropical storm "Urduja" has maintained its strength as it approaches Eastern Samar, state weather bureau PAGASA said early Friday.

In its 2 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the tropical storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Urduja was last located at 155 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and is forecast to move northwest at 5 kph.

The following tropical cyclone warning signals have been raised in these areas:


-Eastern Samar
-Northern Samar


-Camarines Sur
-Dinagat Islands
-Masbate including Burias and Ticao Islands
-Northern Cebu including Bantayan Island
-Northern Iloilo
-Southern Leyte

PAGASA said scattered to widespread rains will continue over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Bicol and the rest of Visayas within 24 hours.

Sea travel remains risky over the eastern seaboards of Bicol and Visayas.

PAGASA said Urduja is expected to make landfall over Eastern Samar between Friday night and Saturday morning.
