'Urduja' to make landfall in Eastern Samar tonight: PAGASA

MANILA - More areas in Luzon and Visayas were placed under tropical cyclone warning no. 1 on Thursday as tropical depression "Urduja" moved closer towards Eastern Samar, weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.

In its 8 a.m. advisory, the state weather bureau said Urduja is expected to make landfall on Eastern Samar tonight as it accelerated at 10 kilometers per hour.

The areas under signal no. 1 are Catanduanes, Camarines Sur,Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu including Bantayan Island, Capiz, Aklan and Northern Iloilo.

PAGASA said Urduja is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gusts of up to 65 kph, as it continues to move westward.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected within Urduja's 400-kilometer diameter, while scattered rains are seen over Visayas and the regions of Bicol, Caraga and Northern Mindanao

PAGASA warns residents in these areas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
