MANILA - Philippine National Police chief, Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa said President Rodrigo Duterte already has a government position in mind for him after he retires next year.
Without revealing anything, Dela Rosa said he's been told by the President that he will be given the "most challenging" position in the government, where everyone else had failed.
"The most challenging na trabaho sa gobyerno. Sabi niya, 'where everyone failed, I expect you to succeed.' Napakabigat na trabaho niyan. Sige imagine-in niyo na lang ang pinakamahirap na trabaho," he told reporters Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Dela Rosa was mum when asked if Deputy General Ramon Apolinario will replace him as the country's top cop. He said it was better to wait for the formal announcement of Duterte.
By virtue of seniority, Apolinario is next in line to the top post after then PNP Chief Ricardo Marquez retired. Duterte instead chose Dela Rosa to lead, bypassing PMA Class '83, '84, and '85.
"Bato," who has been the enforcer of the Duterte administration's war on drugs, is set to retire in January 2018.
