CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - A member of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) is facing a murder charge after allegedly killing his comrade inside the Lumbia Air Base here Friday.
Airman 2nd Class Reymart Noquera supposedly shot Staff Sargeant Renante Blanco using his issued M16 rifle after a heated argument during a drinking session inside the headquarters.
Senior Insp. Gomer Ladera, deputy chief of Police Station 8, said Noquera was given 10 days to answer charges against him.
PAF Northern Mindanao spokesperson Lt. Col. Ferdinand Encomienda said an administrative case against Noquera is ongoing.
"'Yung military justice system is also a process, a due process in which the suspect is given the chance to be heard. Similarly, may mga penalty 'yan," he said.
"Ang kagandahan lang sa military justice system, if you are commander, you have right then and there, puwede mo kaagad i-hold ang mga taong nag va-violate ng policies and regulations kaya 'yun nga, agad na nakakulong ang suspek."
Encomienda added that they will also investigate how liquor entered the headquarters despite a ban on alcohol consumption within military facilities except during approved social gatherings.
"Ito'y isang parte rin ng imbestigasyon ng organisasyon para malaman kung saan galing ang mga inuming nakakalasing na ito. May isa kaming teorya rito na maaring 'yung mga natira nung mga dating pagdiriwang ay naitabi at siyang ginamit [at] nag-inuman sila," added Encomienda.
Noquera is currently detained at the custodial facility of the 4th Infantry Division, which said it is willing to surrender Noquera to the police once the court issues a commitment order.
