MANILA - Four current and retired associate justices of the Supreme Court (SC) attended Monday the House justice committee's impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Among the justices present were Associate Justices Noel Tijam, Francis Jardeleza, Teresita Leonardo-de Castro and retired justice Arturo Brion.
De Castro, who is attending the hearing for the second time, had testified on the allegation that Sereno falsified court orders.
Jardaleza meanwhile is set to shed light on the selection process of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) that Sereno allegedly manipulated to to make sure that he would not sit in the SC, said House justice panel chair Reynaldo Umali.
Brion would speak out on the same issue, he said.
Tijam meanwhile would address an allegation that Sereno delayed the transfer of cases against Maute gunmen, Umali said.
Also present at the hearing was SC Office of the Court Administrator Midas Marquez who testified that a technical working group created by Sereno shelved the benefit claims of deceased justices' widows.
Sereno is also accused of misdeclaring her wealth and having an extravagant lifestyle. She has denied any wrongdoing and refused to attend the hearings.
