Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte on Friday branded as lies and the product of a madman's imagination the allegations of self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato against him and his father President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a complaint filed before the Ombudsman, Matobato said the father and son, along with 26 others, were involved in at least a thousand vigilante killings during the President's time as Davao City mayor.
Paolo Duterte, however, said the allegations are "nothing but a product of the imagination of a madman."
"A closer look at what was filed at the Ombudsman will easily allow us to see the only thing consistent in the Matobato tales --- lies," he said in a statement on Friday.
"What he filed at the Ombudsman was just a piece of garbage," he added.
But the vice mayor noted that Matobato was free to file any complaint since the Philippines is a democracy.
"Any person should not be precluded from filing complaints against anyone if he or she feels that his or her rights have been violated," he said.
