MANILA - Malacanang on Friday dismissed as "harassment" self-confessed hitman Edgardo Matobato's complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.
Matobato filed before the Ombudsman a complaint for murder and kidnapping against the President, his eldest son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa and 25 others on Friday.
"The complaint is nothing but harassment aimed at distracting the Chief Executive from performing his duty," Communications Assistant Secretary Ana Marie Banaag said in a statement Friday.
Banaag also noted that the Ombudsman terminated an earlier investigation on the Davao Death Squad case which linked the President, then Davao City Mayor.
She added that the Palace acknowledges the constitutional mandate of the Ombudsman to act on complaints against government officials but reiterated the President's immunity from suit.
