BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Barangay captain and former professional basketball player Maui Huelar Jr. was discharged from hospital and taken back in custody by police on Thursday.

Huelar, who played in the now-defunct Metropolitan Basketball League, and two others were arrested in a buy-bust operation late November.

He was confined at the South Bacolod General Hospital on December 1 after an attack of asthma and amoebiasis.

According to Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman, the Police Station 8 commander, Huelar will be in the authorities' custody until the Prosecutor's Office releases its decision on a preliminary investigation.

Meanwhile, Christian Joseph Mijares, who was arrested with Huelar during the buy-bust operation, is still in hospital because of diarrhea.

Joshua Arroyo was also arrested but was released.
