Deputy Director General Ramon Apolinario has been widely tipped to take over command of the Philippine National Police next year.
But while there is no official announcement yet, the police's second-in-command is busy attending to his duties as deputy chief for administration.
“Siyempre excited pero no comment muna ako doon. I will perform my job first as DCA of our chief PNP,” he said.
As the Christmas season is already in full swing, Apolinario said they are starting to implement security measures to ensure a safe and orderly holiday.
“Yung security measures natin ngayong Christmas at sa mga bakasyunista, mga tourist, at sa mga balikbayan, yun muna ang trabaho natin,” he said.
On serving as "active support" to the administration's controversial drug war, Apolinario said they will exercise caution in the operations.
On Tuesday, President Rodrigo Duterte signed a memorandum that allows the police to participate anew in the campaign.
