MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine elections last May made it to Facebook's most talked about topics in 2016.
The topics included on Facebook's most talked about topics around the world are the following:
1. US Presidential Election
2. Brazilian Politics
4. Black Lives Matter
5. Rodrigo Duterte & Philippine Presidential Election
8. Super Bowl
9. David Bowie
Facebook said the top 10 moments of 2016 were measured by how frequent the topic was mentioned on Facebook posts between January 1 and November 27, 2016.
"Mentions were analyzed in an aggregated, anonymized way and then ranked to create a snapshot of the year on Facebook," the social media giant said.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg described 2016 as a "difficult year for a lot of people around the world."
"But what gives me hope is that even our darkest moments were a little brighter because of the connections we shared with each other," he said.
"As we head into 2017, I believe more than ever in the power of this community -- to teach us, to console us, to celebrate with us, to open our minds and to help us move forward together," he added.
