MANILA - Fifteen women, including 5 minors, were rescued from the hands of pimps in a KTV bar in Cainta, Rizal on Thursday, the Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Center said.
Suspects Jun Espiritu and Yvonne Mahinay were arrested by police operatives in an entrapment operation when they received a total of P9,000 marked money as payment for two of the minors by a police who posed as a customer.
The suspects allegedly offer the women to KTV patrons where they could choose from the ladies, youngest of whom is 15 years old, and then bring them to a nearby motel, according to Chief Supt. William Macavinta, head of the PNP WCPC.
"Ang payment nagre-range sa category kung may itsura o bata pa. P3,000 to P8,000 ang bayad bawat isa. Mga estudyante pa ang iba. Nakakalungkot na may ganitong pang aabuso sa mga kabataan," he said.
(The payment ranges in the category of looks and age. About P3,000 to P8,000 each. Some are still students. It's saddening that there's this kind of child abuse.)
The two suspects said they were only helping the women.
“Kailangan ng pang-tuition fee. Tumutulong lang ako, hindi ako ang may hawak,” Espiritu said.
(They needed money to pay tuition. I was only helping, I did not hold them.)
“Sabi nila Christmas Party raw ito eh...May iba silang kinontak hindi ako,” Mahinay, the other suspect said.
(They said it's a Christmas party. They contacted someone other than me.)
The suspects will be charged with violation of Anti Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 and the Anti Child Abuse Law.
