MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday met with a group of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who arrived from Qatar, giving away cash and gifts and inviting them to a party in Malacañang.
In his brief speech at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Pampanga, Duterte invited the repatriates to a simple gathering.
“We will set a date with you to go to Malacañang. Mag-party tayo doon,” he said.
The President gave away gifts to the balikbayans. Eight OFWs received P50,000, another eight received P10,000 worth of appliances, while 5 received P3,000 worth of appliances. Twenty from the group received special gifts.
The President handed out OFW cards to 4 OFWs and 4 i-DOLE cards to another set of 4 OFWs, which would give them easy access to government's services for migrant workers.
Duterte enjoys strong support from Filipino migrant workers, garnering a huge number of votes from the sector in the 2016 presidential elections.
