There are at least two lawmakers getting pork in the new budget, according to Sen. Ping Lacson. And president steps up his attack on the religious. These are the stories making the headlines on ANC today:
Pork on the table
Sen. Ping Lacson, an advocate against pork barrel, revealed that based on the budget approved by the House, two lawmakers would be getting billions in pork. He said one lawmaker is a congresswoman. Lacson then showed a list of areas in Pampanga that would be hosting projects funded by her pork barrel. The other lawmaker, he said, is male from Camarines Sur. These are allusions to House Speaker Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Rep. Rolando Andaya. ANC will try to get the side of the lawmakers involved.
Attacks on the religious
In his last speech, President Duterte said Catholic bishops are better off dead for criticizing him. Several priests have already been killed and critics have said these kinds of statements by the president could encourage more killings.
On the holiday ceasefire
The president also said he was no longer ready to talk peace with communist rebels. This could indicate he is not too hot on ordering the usual ceasefire during the holidays. The AFP already said they are not inclined to recommend a ceasefire because it "wasn’t worth it."
Clashing over the charter
The House and the Senate are still clashing over charter change. Rep. Vicente Veloso said the Senate is not doing its job in amending the charter. Senators already said charter change would be dead when it arrives in the Upper House. The opposition in the Lower House said the draft charter which recently passed on second reading was railroaded by the majority. This was denied by House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The Palace has already announced a new AFP Chief of Staff once Gen. Carlito Galvez retires on Dec. 12. Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr. is currently commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command based in Davao. Before that, he cut his teeth as a field commander of various units. ANC will provide more details on the new commander.
