The Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) is ready to equip their operatives with body cameras, but its head says the public should trust authorities as they operate with God as their camera.
“For me, there’s no need of a bodycam. Our camera as policemen is God, yun ang pinaka-camera natin na tinitingnan tayo,” said PNP-DEG Director, Chief Superintendent Joseph Adnol.
Adnol said body cameras are not part of their basic equipment. But they are willing to wear it to show the public that they are doing their job properly.
“The people should trust their policemen, no need for such bodycam,” he added.
Adnol said he is aware of the issues that may come out from wearing a bodycam, especially when technical glitches happen like low batteries and physical damage to the gadget.
“Those are the issues that will come later. Let’s say, unintentionally you use the bodycam, unknowingly, it’s unserviceable and did not function. They might again suspect the policemen na sinadya, di ba? These are the issues that might come up later on,” Adnol explained.
