Inflation numbers for November will be released today, while the UP Maroons look to take a game away from defending champs, the Ateneo Blue Eagles, against the odds. These are the stories ANC will be covering today:

The ANC Brief: Glory or defeat 1

Inflation numbers

Economic managers will hold a briefing for the November 2018 inflation numbers at 9am. Inflation is seen to be tapering towards the end of the year, which is seen to settle below 6.4. ANC is prepared to air this live and will have reactions to the numbers from analysts and the stock market, which has been soaring to the 7700 level lately. But how will looming implementation of the second round of fuel excise tax hikes impact inflation in the months to come? Budget and Management Sec. Ben Diokno will hold his regular Breakfast with Ben to talk about important economic matters. Opposition candidates are also scheduled to hold a press conference to talk about TRAIN.

Presidential Spokesperson Sal Panelo said checking on the Chinese weather stations in the Spratlys might “provoke” China. This is after Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the Philippines cannot physically verify the existence of the stations. The AFP will hold a briefing in Camp Aguinaldo and might discuss this issue.

The President has gotten into the habit of making shocking statements, then later labeling them as jokes. ANC will check his appearances and events at the Palace today for any speeches he might give.

The House of Representatives has approved the draft federal charter on 2nd reading. This would bring the country a step closer to the shift to a federal system of government from the unicameral system in place since the birth of the republic. This is a fulfillment of a campaign promise of the president, who said a shift to the federal system would disperse progress outside of the capital. But the issues of political dynasties and no term limits are still embedded in the draft.

UP wants to live another day while Ateneo will want to finish off the Maroons for the UAAP men’s basketball title. The odds are against the Maroons, who have not beaten the Blue Eagles this season. But law of averages might come into play.
