ILOCOS SUR - A 49-year-old farmer was shot dead and his cadaver dumped in Barangay Guimod Norte, San Juan, Ilocos Sur Saturday.

The victim, Judy Tapat, sustained gunshot wounds in his back.

Initial investigation disclosed that on Friday night, Tapat went to the wake of a friend in Barangay Daclapan in the town of Cabugao.

He allegedly started a fight with someone in the wake and left the area riding a tricycle with an unidentified companion. His body was found dumped beside the road in San Juan town.

"Tinignan natin yung crime scene, masasabi na hindi dito nangyari dahil wala kaming makitang ebidensiya doon sa lugar o sign of commotion siguro binaril sa ibang lugar at iniwan na lang ang bangkay niya dito,” San Juan, Ilocos Sur Chief of Police Senior Inspector Benjamin Raquedan said.

(We checked the crime scene. We can say that he was not killed here because there was no evidence or sign of commotion. He might have been shot elsewhere and his body dumped here.)

The victim’s wife was emotional and asked the killers to surrender.

"Sana makonsensya naman sila sa ginawa nila para maibigay din ang hustisya sa asawa ko, ang liliit pa ng mga anak namin siya lamang ang bumubuhay sa aming pamilya maging pagpalibing sa kanya hindi ko alam kung saan ko kukunin,” Marilyn Tapat said.

(I hope they feel guilty for what they did so we can get justice for my husband's death. Our children are still young, he was the only one supporting our family. We don't even know where to get the money for his burial.)

The victim surrendered to the police in Cabugao last August. He allegedly used illegal drugs in the past.
