Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa admitted on Monday that President Rodrigo Duterte was the “kumpadre” who instructed him to reinstate Police Superintendent Marvin Marcos as head of the CIDG-8.
However, Dela Rosa also revealed that presidential assistant Bong Go is also a “kumpadre” who talked to him about the “humanitarian consideration” of Marcos’ case and Duterte’s plan to speak with him.
“The president is my kumpadre, godfather sa kasal,” Dela Rosa said as a fiery Senator Leila de Lima pressed him for answers.
In a previous interview with ANC, Dela Rosa said a “higher official” ordered the reinstatement of Marcos but later on admitted that it was only a “kumpadre.”
Duterte admitted ordering the reinstatement of Marcos during an ambush interview Friday.
Asked by De Lima why Dela Rosa did not immediately pointed Duterte, the PNP chief said he was “trained not to divulge.”
“Alangan naman sasabihin ko ka-agad. May reason si presidente kung bakit niya pina-reinstate,” he said.
Dela Rosa said Go called him then handed the phone to Duterte who ordered the reinstatement of Marcos.
The PNP chief earlier admitted that Marcos was reinstated on the same day that the latter was relieved.
