MANILA - Five Chinese nationals who are allegedly part of a kidnap for ransom syndicate were nabbed by authorities in Las Piñas City, the Bureau of Immigration said Tuesday.
The suspected kidnappers who were abducting other Chinese nationals based in the Philippines were arrested in a house in Casimiro Village, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.
The suspects were identified as Wang Rui, Li Ming, Ju Wenping, Liu Ming, and Li Sanjiu, Morente said.
A Chinese man who was being held captive by the suspects was also rescued during the operation, he said.
"The rescued victim, whose name had been withheld for his protection, had positively identified the suspects as those who abducted him," Immigration Fugitive Search Unit chief Bobby Raquepo said.
All 5 Chinese nationals recently arrived in the country as tourists or temporary visitors, data from the Bureau of Immigration showed.
The arrest of the Chinese nationals comes a week after the Senate launched a probe against the rise of illegal foreign workers, mostly from China, in the Philippines.
