MANILA—Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered the suspension of work in the city government on Tuesday, Dec. 3 due to the threat of typhoon Tisoy.
However, the city's Department of Social Welfare, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Department of Engineering and Public Works, Department of Public Services and city-owned hospitals will continue operations, he said.
Tisoy, which made its first landfall over Sorsogon late Monday night, is expected to pass through Metro Manila and will bring strong winds and heavy rains.
Suspending work in the private sector is at the discretion of employers, Moreno said.
"Nasa discretion ng mga may-ari ng kompanya... But if you're going to ask me, better safe than sorry," he added.
The mayor earlier announced the suspension of classes in the capital.
"Suspendido na po ang klase sa lahat ng antas sa mga pampubliko at pribadong paaralan bukas, ika-3 ng Disyembre, 2019. Stay safe, Manileños!" he said.
